The Value of a great Mix

Mixing is a language; it is not just understanding the technical aspects of using equalization, compression, and effects—these are merely tools, like words to a poet.

At the highest level of execution, a great mix captivates the listener, allowing them to get lost in the music and let go of their current reality.

In a world of endless music on streaming platforms and ever-increasing competition, the difference between great and merely good can also mean vastly more streams, followers, and sales.

Greatness is not merely a result of mixing; a compelling song with great production and source material are all requirements.

Without great mixing, though, significant effort (and money spent) in the rest of the process can all go to waste. Great mixing is an investment.

Tools are tools, by themselves, they are not creative.
Tools are tools, by themselves, they are not creative.

Great mixing can take many forms. Sometimes, all it requires is a right tweaks in the exact right places. Those are situations in which the mixing should be felt rather than heard.

Other times, a bit of flexing in the mix can truly elevate a song. Sound effects, eq automation, a perfectly timed reverb throw — used in the right situations, can create powerful emotions that makes your song memorable and worthy of replaying over and over.

Knowing when to bring mixing to the forefront and when to make it a silent background player requires experience and, above all, taste.

Great mixing must also account for context.

Who is listening? Where and when do they listen? What devices do they use?

And most importantly what is vision of the artist, producer and record label?

When you work with me, you’re not paying for technical expertise or all the cool plugins and analog gear that I own. Those are just extra benefits that come as part of the package.

What you are paying for is taste and understanding of context. These are the main things I offer, along with quick turnarounds and excellent communication.

As a result, I charge more than the average market rate. I also deliver results that are far better than what you’ll get when you pay average rates.

If you’re serious about how your music connects to your audience, and you’re willing to invest in making the mixing part of your pipeline truly world-class, let’s talk.
